If you have trouble controlling your bladder, you're not alone. Millions of females suffer with bladder control problems, also called urinary incontinence or urine loss. Women may leak urine when they laugh or sneeze, or feel the urge to urinate often but cannot.
If you suffer from urinary incontinence, you know it can have a significant impact on your life. You may find yourself avoiding professional or social activities for fear of embarrassment.
The good news is that it doesn't have to be that way. Dr. del Castillo has helped many women overcome these challenges and improve their quality of life. His patients get the benefit of having an excellent surgeon with over three decades of experience.
Once you have had a thorough exam, Dr. del Castillo will suggest the most appropriate treatment for you based on your specific health needs and personal preferences.
Treatment Options
Tension-Free Vaginal Sling: This is a highly effective outpatient procedure that supports the urethra using a special mesh tape. This is typically placed just behind the pubic bone as a treatment for stress incontinence.
Acupuncture treatment: Dr. del Castillo has had great success using acupuncture to treat urinary incontinence. According to a study published by the Chinese Journal of Surgery in 2010, acupuncture, when added to pelvic floor muscle exercises, is effective for decreasing urinary incontinence. The study's experimental group saw more improvement than the control subjects who used only pelvic floor muscle exercises.
Electro-Acupuncture: This is a form of acupuncture that uses a small electric current passed between pairs of acupuncture needles. Another term for this procedure is percutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, or PENS. Dr. del Castillo offers this form or acupuncture because it has proven successful in the treatment of urinary incontinence. According to some experts, electro-acupuncture augments regular acupuncture treatment to restore health and well-being and is an excellent treatment for pain, as well.
Anterior Vaginal Repair: This is a special procedure that treats prolapse of the bladder into the vagina.
